Ladies Spiritual Retreat

The CoEJ Ladies Spiritual Retreat held on 5 – 7 July 2019 was attended by 27 ladies from jamaats across the UK. The retreat was held at the Barlings Barn in the idyllic surroundings of Wales. The relaxing weekend included games, spiritual discussion sessions and workshops with Aalimah Masuma Jaffer. The participants enjoyed scenic walks in the woods, swimming and even a trip to the beach.

There was positive feedback all round; below are some comments from the retreat participants:

‘It was one of the most memorable and idyllic weekends of my life. Subhan’Allah it was an extremely well organised event. The facilitators were warm, welcoming and looked after us with sedulous care. Masuma Baji’s lectures were truly enlightening and elucidated complex concepts regarding nafs and ruh. The salat record book is very helpful too.’

‘The whole experience was a beautiful combination of being close to nature, in a clean and well maintained cottage, surrounded by some breath taking sights! Ladies were very like minded with a desire for self improvement and growth. There was great positivity in the group alhamdulillah. Everyone was very easy going and friendly. We had a brilliant time from light hearted conversations on the dining table to great laughs in the pool or living room! We played games, walked in the forest and on the beach. Weather was just perfect. Outdoor activities such as mindfulness yoga and lectures were a highlight!  I wish we had longer time though but alhamdulillah! I look forward to attending the next retreat Insh’Allah.’

‘A meticulously planned trip put together by very focused organisers who took into consideration the minutest detail of twenty seven ladies with a well-planned menu which even included gluten-free meals for a couple of ladies. The ladies in charge just did not fall short of food – scrumptious breakfast, lunch and dinner served with salads, huge helpings of lasagne, chickpeas and potatoes, Chinese chicken with rice & mango dessert with loads of Cornish ice cream.

To then, enjoy facilities available at the barn – pool table, swimming sessions and some board games and they did not miss out on the bonfire around which some memorable experiences were recounted which made us all think of our relationships with the Almighty -which we should never take for granted. Seaside enthusiasts were helped with glorious sunshine on the Sunday along with an outdoor yoga session not to forget the early ramblers to the woods. The idyllic surrounding exuded warmth and positivity from each and every participant.’
