Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place this weekend on Saturday 24th September 2016 to a full set of attendees at Hujjat Stanmore. We received Delegates, Councillors, Invitees, Office Bearers and Observers from around Europe, celebrating and discussing the key successes achieved by CoEJ over the past year. The event started off with a Quranic Reflection from Syed Mohamed Naqvi around verse 10 of Surah Ale Imran. This was then preceded by an address from the President of Hujjat Stanmore, the host Jamaat, Sheikh Mustafa Jaffer. He warmly welcomed the delegates to Stanmore, generously offering guests the hospitality that Hujjat has to offer and wishing all the delegates well.
The CoEJ President, Dr Akber Mohamedali, then gave his address to the Conference. He started off by thanking Allah (swt) and the Ahlulbayt for providing him with the opportunity to serve. He went on to thank the Volunteers, the Councillors, the Board Heads, the Secretariat Staff and the Office Bearers for the time, dedication and commitment they have shown in serving the community. He talked about his special relationship with his fellow Office Bearers and how they are united as a team to serve the community. He also paid tribute to the commitment that The World Federation have shown and emphasised on the equal adult-adult relationship that the WF have had with CoEJ. He then went through the Annual Report, available here. Having completed the Annual Report, a facilitated session then took place with Kassam Jaffer asking the group tables to think about the behaviours around each CoEJ value: Colloboration, Valuing Diversity, Transparency and Integrity, meant to them. Dr Akber went on to facilitate a session around the strategic direction for CoEJ in Matrimonial and Sports, and how CoEJ can add value to these areas of work.
After Salaat and a hearty lunch, the delegates then recommenced the meeting with Mazaheer Rajwani, the Assistant Treasurer, putting forward an important investment proposal for the Conference to think about. After much deliberation, a resolution was drafted, and put to the Conference. This was voted on by the full Conference and passed with unanimous approval.
The minutes of the previous AGM were approved by the Conference after discussing the matters arising.
Councillors and Delegates then had an opportunity to make their opinions heard regarding Any Other Business (AOB). We then had a special presentation from Amir Merali, a Councillor from Africa Federation, who came to talk about the new state-of-the-art Madrassah in Mombasa. You can see the full video here.
