The CoEJ Youth Desk aims to create a dynamic and interdependent circuit of thriving youth groups, willing to serve for the common good of the Khoja community at large. The Youth Desk (YD) will endeavour to facilitate in the communication and growth of individual youth bodies, helping to stimulate a structure whereby different youth bodies can learn from each other's skills, practices and experiences. The YD will also aim to provide courses for the youth that will equip them with the necessary tools to enhance their potential in coping with modern day challenges. An example can be seem with the launch of the Leadership Developments course, aimed at developing the capacity of the youth and young professionals within the community. It is felt that a continuation of such programmes will definitely inspire and promote future leaders from within our community.

An Event organised by the Abbasi Youth Committee on the 28th of April 2007 A small collection of various pieces of art from talented individuals within our community were put on display on the wiladat day of our 11th Imam (as). The work included various paintings, photos, Islamic calligraphy and poetry. The aim of the exhibition was to allow members of the community to appreciate and find inspiration in the various works of art on display. Also, it is necessary to promote and encourage the artistic talents that lie within our community.
The feedback was positive and many ideas for future art related events were suggested. These included running ‘workshops’ whereby members of the community can come and learn more about certain aspects of art, themed exhibitions and art competitions. |

With the grace of Allah, the planning of the Imam Sadiq course has come to fruition with approximately 14 people attending the first two courses of Stage 1, namely; Spoken Arabic and Fiqh. There has been a lot of interest shown in various subjects and as time progresses these courses will commence. The course has been organised to provide 10 hours study for each subject over 2 stages. This will ensure that a basic understanding of the core Shia Islamic beliefs are understood. The sessions are run by an experienced alim with course notes handed out and sessions run by way of lecture and seminar. Stage 1 is expected to finish by the summer holidays with, stage 2 scheduled to start after Ramadhan. For those that complete the course this year they will have gained approximately 60 hours of high quality learning from the cream of Birmingham’s Ullema.

The Husayn Day programme which we held on the 25th of Ferbuary in conjunction with the Al Hawra Sisters Network was probably one of the biggest programmes that we have had. We invited Shaikh Arif Abdulhussein & Syed Ammar Nakshwani to this event, and they spoke about the character of Imam Hussein and the relevance of the tragedy of Kerbala in our daily lives. The number of people that attended this event was over about 450, and we thought it was a great success. We also had a member of the youth committee present an item, and ended the programme with Nyaz. |

A book fair was held in conjunction with a playstation tournament as the AYC’s first event.
