The Behlool Society Summer Camp 2007 Report |
|
The Behlool Society Summer Camp that took place in the summer of 2007 was incredibly educational as well as extremely enjoyable. I was lucky enough to be one of the few people who participated in the camp which I felt had a good range of topics that varied from Qur’an, Islamic History, Akhlaq, Study of Duas, guidance on living in the West and also many more enlightening and informative subjects that I know I hugely benefited from. I would like to however highlight the topic of guidance on living in the west as I felt that this was tremendously relevant to the modern day and to my life as I picked up many useful and constructive points that are still helping me today.
I was immensely grateful to the lecturers who took the time and effort to teach us whilst I also was very appreciative to the Behlool Society for arranging such an immensely successful camp. The seminars were also very interactive which engaged us the participants to take part and to learn some of the most important things that I feel I would cherish for the rest of my life. This was partly due to the vast technology that the Behlool Society used to the full potential of such as the overhead projector and computer software but also more importantly the way the teachers constantly put us under the spotlight by asking us questions that related to their topic. There were also many sessions that were dedicated to questions and answers, even at 2:00 in the morning.
The admin and mentors who were involved in making this camp a great success and to whom I will always be grateful towards also were very helpful, supportive and encouraging whilst the hard work and organisation that took place right from the beginning of the camp to the end was quite exceptional. This was evident from how they always made sure that everyone was well fed and motivated whilst even the sleeping arrangements that were arranged made us all feel like we were in five star hotels due to the large amounts of space that was always available.
Breakfast in the morning was served which was always plentiful whilst lunch and dinner also were ample. There was food to suit everyone from the pizzas, chips, burgers and large variety of drinks that always left us very satisfied.
Pool, playstation and table tennis were all part of the timetable as well which I did on a regular basis embarrassingly lose at. I felt that it was these opportunities that we were given that I was able to spend time with friends and people who I had never met before. I was very grateful for such sessions as I personally live very far from the mosque and therefore unfortunately do not get much time so spend with the people who I enjoy being with. I am therefore again very thankful to the Behlool Society for this quite truly amazing camp.
The swimming that also took place was quite honestly amazing. This was because I was again able to spend time with people who I hardly see on a regular basis. Not only this, but I also had incredible fun trying not to drown in the deep end of what was quite a big pool. There were many games that also took place such as water polo which I myself had never played before.
In conclusion, I felt that I had learnt a lot of information and lessons from a great selection of lecturers that were always very willing to interact with us the participants. I was able to meet and know people who I had never met before due to how the Behlool Society had extended the invitation to other jamaats across the country, and also re-establish relationships with people who I had lost contact with over the years. There were many sessions of games and outdoor activities that enhanced the fun and enjoyment of the camp which always reminded me of how lucky I was to be there. I therefore hope inshallah that there will be another camp which I will try my utter best to attend.
