Roadshow - Sweden March 2007 E-mail
News
On Saturday 18 March 2007 the Youth Desk departed from Stanstead Airport for their road show visit to Sweden. The first leg of this trip was visiting Marsta jamaat, located just outside of Stockholm. Here the Youth Desk met with Brother Minhal and his team. The session was well attended with active youth form both brothers and sisters of the jamaat. After learning about the activities and projects currently being undertaken by the youth group in Marsta our attention turned to advising on how to cope with problems faced by jamaats with smaller attendances. We were also very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with the resident alim and Brother Salim Govani and discuss the common problem of attracting the youth. They also highlighted some of the potential difficulties facing the youth, and provided a great insight into areas that the Youth Desk could be of assistance.

Our focus then switched to the jamaat of Trolhatten, located 400km west of Stockholm. We had the privilege of meeting Brother Mazahir and his committee at the Trolhatten Mosque on Sunday morning. The discussion was lively and informative and many ideas were shared, and inshallah these will be put into practice in the near future. After a tour of their beautiful centre we were served lunch with the madressa students, and after saying our zohrain prayers we departed for Gothenburg airport for our flight back to Stanstead.

Roadshow - Paris February 2007 E-mail
News
On Saturday 10th February the CoEJ Youth Desk embarked upon its first road show visit outside of the UK. The venues were the two jamaats based in Paris. The afternoon was spent at Mehfil-e-Zainab in the north of Paris.

After a three hour journey we were treated to a delicious lunch followed by an informative meeting with several brothers and sisters from the community. These included the Jamaat President, Madressa Principle, Sports Representative and a collection of active youths. Several key areas were discussed whereby the Youth Desk and the community at large could assist the non English speaking members of our community. Inshallah in the coming months, programmes will be put in place in helping to bridge the gap between ourselves and our brothers and sisters from across the Channel.

Join Open Discussions E-mail
News
The activities of Open Discussions started off in March 2005 as a project initiated and set up by a group of young, enthusiastic and committed Muslims. Initially given the name Abrar Discussions, the venture set-off to give a platform for individuals to discuss various issues concerning Muslims both locally and globally. These discussions strive to fill in gaps that Mosques and Islamic centers have left open - mainly discussion, dialogue and discourse on a social, political and religious level.

Moreover, Open Discussions was designed to bring individuals from various backgrounds regardless of colour, religion or gender together to talk about the rising challenges facing the Muslim community.

The Noor Orphans Fund Swimathon 2006 Update E-mail
News
Image
The Noor Orphans Fund is a UK registered charity organisation whose main role is to provide financial support and assistance to orphans in Iraq. At present, approximately 1,700 orphans in Iraq are receiving monthly support from the Noor Orphans Fund. The Orphans Fund also runs a sponsorship scheme whereby a person can sign up to sponsor an orphan in Iraq for just £10 per month. When an orphan is sponsored, the sponsor will receive a profile and photograph of the orphan they are sponsoring. The sponsor is also able to correspond with the orphan by sending letters and cards. The sponsor will also be able to send gifts for special occasions such as Eid or birthdays to the orphan.

In order to raise more money to help the increasing impoverished orphans in Iraq, it was decided to hold an event to raise more donations. The event that was decided on was a swimathon challenge, whereby 2 swimmers will attempt to swim 3,000 metres without stopping. In return we asked for people to sponsor the swimmers for the completion of this challenge. All sponsorships and donations made would go directly to the orphans in Iraq and help sponsor more orphans and their families who are in desperate need of support.
