First CoEJ Leadership and Development Course |
|
The weekend of the 9th and 10th December saw the first COEJ leadership and development course take place. This was the first in a series of courses that are being planned as part of the COEJ Youth Desk's (YD) Continuous Development Programme (CDP). The course aims to enhance personal development and team working skills of youths and professionals within the community. These are skills which are thought to be mostly underdeveloped in many career training and education programmes but which can often significantly improve communication and productivity of individuals within the professional and community environment.
The course was held at Harben House in Milton Keynes where 18 participants from various parts of the country came to attend for the duration of the weekend. Being the first in a series of leadership courses, the topic chosen for this course was Emotional Intelligence - a topic that is broad and confers understanding of a number of important principles in relation to personal and intra-personal development. Participants were introduced to a number of key concepts such as personal motivators, concept maps and personality types. Understanding of these areas was achieved through a series of didactic sessions that were reinforced by exercises focusing on self-reflection as well as group exercises where opportunity was given to further explore the application of these skills. The course was facilitated by the charismatic Aamer Naeem who has been working professionally in this area for a number of years and has worked with a number of large companies and organisations such as the MCB.
The course was conducted and facilitated in a highly professional Manner with a superb venue and facilities that far exceeded expectations. The content was also exceptionally well targeted to the audience. The combination of these factors coupled with the enthusiasm of the facilitators and participants themselves helped to create a friendly Islamic environment conducive to learning and development which, no doubt, contributed to what was a wholly successful event. A fantastic start that we can be sure will set the standard for the courses to follow.
