Report of Ladies Ghusl and Kafan Seminar organised in Birmingham |
|
On Sunday 10th June the Abbasi Youth Committee organized a practical seminar on ghusl, kafan and dafan (burial), in conjunction with the Ladies Ghusl / Kafan Committee. The aim of this seminar was to create awareness of the wajibaats that need to be carried out before and after a loved one passes away.
Places were limited to 60 participants (due to practical demonstrations) and they were quickly filled. On the day more people did turn up and Alhamdulillah we managed to squeeze those we could in.
The day started with nyaz at 2pm followed with a speech by Shamim (Aunty) Mehrali on Saqaratal Mawt (last stages of life).
The ladies were then split into groups and a 2 hour practical session ensued.
Rotations were done between four stations;
• Demonstration of Ghusl-e-Mayyit performed in the Ghusl Khana. • Demonstration of Kafan on “live” volunteers. • What needs to be done to a body during the time of Saqaratal Mawt. • Writing of Kalema and Names of 14 Ma’asoomeen on rose twigs ie Jaridatayn.
Shamim Aunty then took the stand again and gave a short speech on what happens to the body spiritually and physically between kafan and dafan, by which time Maulana Muhammad Naqvi had arrived to carry out a full dafan demonstration.
He started by explaining the fiqh and method of Namaaz-e-Janaaza. A “mayyit” was then carried out of the mosque by AYC volunteers into the car park where a coffin was waiting as a makeshift grave. Maulana Naqvi proceeded to explain the process of “lanzeal” and the etiquette of carrying and placing a mayyit into the grave. He then explained and demonstrated Talqeen and how the grave is closed.
Rozmin (Aunty) Khimji ended the day with a short lecture on “Life after death” and responsibilities of the family members after dafan.
Overall feedback was very positive from all who attended (the only criticism received was lack of snacks and chai during the long day!). The AYC would like to thank the all members of the ladies ghusl / kafan committee, Rozmin Aunty and Maulana Naqvi for all their hard work. We would also like to thank all donors who made the event possible and request a Sura-Fateha for the Ihsaale Sawaab of all Marhumeen.
Due to the popularity of the seminar we Insha'allah intend to host another one later on this year for all those who could not get a place this time round.
