Britain as most of Europe is a multicultural society, yet most people do not live in multicultural communities. Dr Abbas will explore the causes and effects behind 'self-segregation' or ghettoization of ethnic communities throughtout Europe which has led to communties living 'Parallel Lives' where communities have limited or no contact with the mainstream community or another minority community. The discussion will help to explore the challenges faced various communties and the government in breaking such ghettos and creating a more integrated society in Europe. Dr Abbas will also critically discuss the government's community cohesion programme which was developed to tackle the underlying inequality between communities and to promote interaction.
