The discussion hopes to provide a balanced understanding of contemporary Islamic Political Thought and the implications for Islamic Movements. Dr Charles Tripp works on Islamic Political Thought at SOAS, and, drawing on examples from the Middle East, will analyse how Islamic thinkers have responded to issues such as modernity, secularisation and nationalism. Dr Tripp will provide insights into Islamic revivalism and the socio-political conditions in which Islamic groups and movements emerged.
