The talk hopes to uncover whether war and sufferring can bring about a state of peace and justice, and whether in fact peace and justice cannot be achieved without such suffering and sacrifice. The concept of suffering and sacrifice appears to be a central part of most major religions; the role of Jesus Christ in Christianity, Mahatma Gandhi and the teachings of the Srimad Bhagavatam in Hinduism, and the teachings of bravery and sacrifice of Guru Nanak in Sihkism, but to name a few.
We hope to shed some light on this concept, and in doing so introduce the great martyr of Islam and humanity Imam al Hussein (AS), the suffering and sacrifice of which makes those who hear his story hold him in unparalelled veneration.
