Report:
The program began with recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Brother Mohammed Ali. The president of the Jamaat, Brother Shabbir Rahemtulla, was then invited by Brother Hussein Kanani, who was acting as facilitator on the night, to give a short speech about the importance of youth participation in the community. He stressed that the Executive Committee of the Jamaat was always willing to help the youth however it was up to the youth to take initiative.
Brother Hashim Bhatti was then invited to give a brief talk about the challenges facing the youth today in the west e.g. at university and in the workplace.
Following this speech, the president was again invited to the front to answer some questions which had been sent from the ladies hall. The president answered a few of the questions before the program was split thus allowing the ladies to continue with their own program. On the gents side, the majority of the proceedings consisted of a question and answer session with the president of the jamaat. The main issue that arose from the youth was concerning the language of lectures given at the centre. The majority of the youths expressed their desire to have more English lectures, particularly on the significant nights, delivered by quality speakers. Some youths also expressed a desire for Gujurati and/or Kutchi lectures. Brother Alireza Alimohamed gave closing remarks on behalf of the Abbasi Youth Committee and the programme ended with Nyaz. |
