CoEJ Youth Desk kicked off their fact finding tour on Saturday, 11 November 2006. In a joint visit with CoEJ Education, Leeds jamaat kindly hosted the visitors and over dinner, had a productive and fruitful discussion. The Jamaat needs and wants were shared; Youth, Madressa and wider issues such as the Jamaat website were brought forward.
During the discussion, which included members of the EC and the Jamaat Youth Coordinator, the aims and visions of the YD were presented, and opinion sought on these. The views garnered will be compiled as part of the desks report and will insha'allah shape the future of the desk. |

The Noor Orphans Fund is a UK registered charity organisation whose main role is to provide financial support and assistance to orphans in Iraq. At present, approximately 1,700 orphans in Iraq are receiving monthly support from the Noor Orphans Fund. The Orphans Fund also runs a sponsorship scheme whereby a person can sign up to sponsor an orphan in Iraq for just £10 per month. When an orphan is sponsored, the sponsor will receive a profile and photograph of the orphan they are sponsoring. The sponsor is also able to correspond with the orphan by sending letters and cards. The sponsor will also be able to send gifts for special occasions such as Eid or birthdays to the orphan. In order to raise more money to help the increasing impoverished orphans in Iraq, it was decided to hold an event to raise more donations. The event that was decided on was a swimathon challenge, whereby 2 swimmers will attempt to swim 3,000 metres without stopping. In return we asked for people to sponsor the swimmers for the completion of this challenge. All sponsorships and donations made would go directly to the orphans in Iraq and help sponsor more orphans and their families who are in desperate need of support. |

The Noor Orphans Fund is a UK registered charity organisation, established since July 2000 to help Muslim orphans. We currently have over 1,700 orphans on our database receiving monthly financial support. Our work is currently mainly concentrated on Iraqi orphans, but we are planning to expand to reach orphans in other Muslim countries around the world.
On Saturday 9th December 2006, Ahmed Al-Jobouri and Haider Twaij will each attempt to swim 3,000 metres non-stop (that’s 90 lengths of the swimming pool!) to raise money for the orphans in Iraq. 100% of your donations will go directly to the orphans in Iraq.
