Kazim Dhanji was born in Peterborough in 1986 and is the elder of two brothers. His father, Hasnain, was born in Kampala and moved to the UK in 1972 and his mother, Shahina, was born in Mombasa and moved to the UK in 1974.
His secondary schooling was at Oundle School, where he obtained 9 GCSE passes. At A level, he who took Maths, Biology and Chemistry and obtained 3A’s and a Merit in Advanced Extension Award chemistry. He is currently in his second year at Keele University and is studying medicine.
He tries to recite duas as often as possible at his local jamaat. He has helped with the Husaini Youth Committee when it was first established in Peterborough and although no longer on the committee, due to university commitments, he is keen to lend a helping hand whenever possible. During his time at school, he helped established an Islamic Society to give the other students a greater understanding of Islam and recently at university, he helped establish the Keele Ahlul Bayt Society which was needed to serve the Shia students at the university. This will be his second Sweden camp as a mentor as he previously attended in 2005. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling and has been fortunate to see many countries of the world including America and Australia. He also enjoys golf, squash, badminton and hiking and intends this summer to undertake the three peaks challenge (which involves climbing Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell within 24 hours) for charity. |
