Ali Akber Hussein
Ali Akber Hussein, more famously known as “aah”, is the ninth of the tenth in the family. He was born in Zanzibar in 1947. He is the youngest of the five sons of Hussein Dharamsi Gangji and Marhuma Zainab Mohamedali Jaffer. He got married in 1974 and has a family of three daughters. Having first settled in Essex for a number of years, the family is now settled in Canon’s Park, in London.
 
His primary and secondary school education was completed at the St. Joseph’s Convent School in Zanzibar, Tanzania. In 1964, he went to London, UK for further studies, and completed his GCE and undertook “A” Levels in London. He graduated with a Remedial Gymnastic degree from the College of Remedial Gymnastics and Recreational Therapy, Wakefield, Yorkshire. He started his professional career as a Remedial Gymnast in a North London Hospital. He went on for further professional education and achieved a specialist degree in Physiotherapy (Coventry University) and a Management Diploma (Anglia University). He then worked in a post of Managerial responsibility in the Physiotherapy Department of two hospitals in Essex, and then transferred to the Wembley Hospital, where he is now practising.

Whilst living in Essex, he founded the Madressa (on Sundays) and was its Headmaster for eighteen years. He also committed to Stanmore on Saturdays to teach at the Hujjat Saturday Workshop. He was the Principal of the Husaini Madressa, Stanmore, for a year. He is currently on a sabbatical as Senior Teacher at the Hujjat Saturday Workshop in Stanmore.

He served on the Executive Committee of the Ithnaasheri Union, Stanmore, and on the London Jamaat EC for a continuous six years, with the primary responsibility of the Building Supervisor. He served as an assistant Mukhi for London Jamaat for two years. For over twenty-one years and continuing, he is a car park volunteer, normally based at the main entrance, for every function. In 2002, he set up the Friday Community Program (FCP) and ran it for a year. He runs a weekly Thursday Night Qur’an Classes for boys at Stanmore, and twice weekly after school Qur’an Classes, also at Hujjat Stanmore. He is also one of the Co-ordinators of the Hujjat Daily Qur’an classes. He has set up and continues to run the Ramadhan English Youth ten-minute talks programmes at Stanmore for the past eight years. He is a recipient of the Husaini Medal and Citation for outstanding services to the community.

He has been involved with most of the CoEJ GSCE and University Study Skills course and was a lecturer at the CoEJ Kingswood Camp in 2001, and the Sweden camp in 2004. He returns this year as a lecturer. He helped set up and ran a Special Summer Camp for Marsta Jamaat in Sweden.

His interest lies mainly in the service of Islam, and community, through his experience of years of youth counselling and youth activities. He enjoys Martial Arts and Poetry.
