It is the end of the second day and the feeling around the camp is filled with enthusiasm and excitement. Having no previous experience with the Sweden camp I was slightly anxious at taking this role due to the ratio of two mentors to twelve campers. The administration team along with the campers have made the introduction into this role as simple as possible. There has been a great amount of time spent by the administration team and the mentors into ensuring this camp provides the campers its mission statement: ‘Towards Excellence’. All of the training we as mentors received had been very carefully planned to ensure that we knew how to operate in various scenarios that we may find ourselves in. Although it is only the end of the second day I feel that a lot of training gained has already been implemented which again, stresses how smoothly operated this camp is. Even though my role is one of a mentor, it stretches to being seen as an older brother and as a friend. The relationship is continually growing and it seems that I am gaining the campers trust and respect which is will in turn assist me in working with them. It seems the campers are kept very busy during throughout the day to ensure they maximise the time they spend at this camp. The timetable has been arranged so that the campers get a good mix of religious, educational and sporting activities. With the continuing hard work from the administrators and mentors, and of course with Allah’s (S.W.T) grace, the camp will be trouble free with the campers learning new skills and knowledge that they are able to use in their day-to-day activities after they leave.
