Yasin Rahim was born in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania in 1962. He moved to Brussels, for two years from 1978-1980. As an enthusiastic and bright young academic, Yasin studied BSc in Pharmacy at Drake University in Iowa, America. He then continued his further education by undertaking a Masters at the Ohio State University. At present he is working as a Team Leader for the Healthcare Commission, the healthcare regulator for England and Wales.
On the community front Yasin has worked extensively and various levels. He began as a youth leader, served initially as Assistant Secretary of Wessex Jamaat before being elected to the post of Secretary. Whilst at Wessex Jamaat, he led the project of developing a strategic plan for the Jamaat. He has also served the Council of European Jamaats as Secretary General, and has served the World Federation as part of the Islamic Education Board team, the External Relations Team, and as an Executive Councillor. He was an active member of the team that produced the World Federation Strategic Plan "Creating Futures Together 2003-2008." He is now the current Secretary General of the World Federation. He has an active interest in capacity building, especially in our youth, in instilling personal development to community workers and is an avid supporter of the CoEJ Boys Camp. He will spend time with the Mentors upon their arrival, a day before the campers arrive, in order to go through their personality preference tests (MBTI indicator). He will give detailed feedback and importantly highlight how they can work more effectively as a team unit. Yasin has already gone through the personality tool with the camp Admin Team, and his work is viewed as being crucial to efficacy of this year's camp. Yasin loves reading biographies and teaches tareekh to students of Wessex Madressa. |
