Shabbar Kassam was born in 1981 in London and currently resides in Croydon, UK. His parents are originally from Tanzania and he has a younger sister. Shabbar is recently married, and his wife Masuma, a recent graduate, has also participated in previous CoEJ educational courses as a mentor and often helps CoEJ in the promotion and advertising of their events.
Shabbar attended Trinity High school, where he acquired ten GCSE’s. He then completed three A-Levels in Maths, History and Economics. He went forward to graduate from the University of Surrey in 2003, where he obtained a BSc Honours in Economics. He is currently studying to complete his Certificate in Financial Planning, after which he will become a qualified Financial Advisor. At present he is working with his father in their financial services business. With the grace of Allah (swt) Shabbar has found many opportunities to engage himself at a communal level. Shabbar plays an active role as a member of Hyderi Jamaat, where he has helped chair and organise youth events, especially during the months of Muharram and Ramadhan. Furthermore, Shabbar has also been involved in teaching Quran at the Madressa and inshallah intends to continue in the next academic year.
Being a keen sportsman, Shabbar has participated over many years at the CoEJ annual sports festival, representing Hyderi in football. He is also a particularly keen golfer and is a member of the Jaffery Golf Society.
Shabbar attended the 2004 Sweden Camp as a mentor and this year he will be playing the role of Mukhi. |
