The Camp this year will run for 23rd July to 3rd August 2006. This year we have 7 members of the Administration team, five of whom are travelling to the Camp, whilst two will remain in the UK to form the contact points. The Camp is also blessed with the presence of 9 mentors, all of whom have been specifically handpicked. We also have two cooks, who are integral to the Camp, and without whom the Camp would be impossible to run. The Camp is created with the assistance of our counterparts in Kärsögården, and we would like to thank them for their full co-operation. The Camp is the culmination of twelve months of consistent effort my a number of individuals, and we would like to thank them all for their genuine hard work and dedication. InshAllah this Camp will be successful, and we wish all the Campers, Mentors and Admin staff the very best!

Four minutes past midnight on the fifth day, and I’m still awake. Its uncanny the way that Sweden seems to make time stand still. According to the timetables we have been here for a whole week, but I still haven’t had a single night of sleep; it feels like a never-ending day!

So here I am sitting outside the living quarters (Poseidon) on a cold Thursday morning at 1.30 am doing my scheduled night guard duty, safely armed with my super powered torch and trusty whistle. Finally getting some time to sit and reflect on the camp, so far. This opportunity presents itself very rarely as throughout the camp we mentors are bombarded with things to do: take care of the campers making sure that they are at the correct activity at the correct time with the necessary equipment, ensure that they are safe, well and happy, answer any of their burning questions, assist the admin team, prepare for the next barrage of questions and activities and at the same time recharge our own batteries, which seem to be on overcharge with a surprising amount of reserve fuel for that early morning Fajr wake up round. Speaking of Fajr, this Blog seems to have taken longer than expected as now I have just returned from Fajr prayers having carried out my duties for the night of patrolling the camp looking out for random people that may be lurking about and sometimes random campers sleep walking, or just walking half asleep. |

Alhamdullilah the camp is progressing fantastically. The campers, although exhausted, are waking up for salaah and breakfast in perfect timing. This punctuality can be seen as campers are departing breakfast before some mentors have arrived.

The end of the first full day of camp and what a day it has been. All the campers were energised, right from breakfast, to the post-ziarat dua that was recited with as much zest as a world-cup final crowd cheering their team on. I was supremely impressed at the energy at the last salaat of the evening. |

It is the end of the first day and the feeling around the camp is one of high spirit and excitement. From the moment the coach brought 30 excited but tired campers to the camp, the atmosphere has been one of friendship and politeness. Having no prior experience with this camp which is in its 7th Year in Sweden, I was slightly anxious at taking this role due to the ratio of two mentors to eight campers. The administration team along with the campers have made the introduction into this role as simple as possible.
