Sweden 2006

The Camp this year will run for 23rd July to 3rd August 2006. This year we have 7 members of the Administration team, five of whom are travelling to the Camp, whilst two will remain in the UK to form the contact points. The Camp is also blessed with the presence of 9 mentors, all of whom have been specifically handpicked. We also have two cooks, who are integral to the Camp, and without whom the Camp would be impossible to run.

The Camp is created with the assistance of our counterparts in Kärsögården, and we would like to thank them for their full co-operation. The Camp is the culmination of twelve months of consistent effort my a number of individuals, and we would like to thank them all for their genuine hard work and dedication.

InshAllah this Camp will be successful, and we wish all the Campers, Mentors and Admin staff the very best!

Camp Administration E-mail

At the end of every camp the administration and organisation of the next camp begins.

So what process do the admin team go through, to organise the camp?

In co-operation with the hosts, the site is assessed and then if the Admin team feels satisfied, subsequently booked.

The next stage is finding the mentors, which often stirs great deliberation between those in the Administration, as various names are put forward and then deliberated upon for consideration.

Activities E-mail

Teambuilding activities perform an important role in the development of campers. The main focus of these activities is to instil an ethic of team work, co-operation, trust and mutual confidence. Campers evaluate their performances and learn how to fine tune their leadership and team working ability.

Day 12 - Mentor Diary E-mail
As I sit here on the plane, I realise that I blinked. The camp is now over and here we are on the way back to our families. I cannot believe how quickly the time has passed over these past 12 days. I sit here contemplating all the events that occurred; from sightseeing to tube skiing and from jinn stories to table tennis tournaments, the range of activities has been immense. It has only just dawned that the ideology of what a mentor should be, a role model, is being fulfilled by us, as the campers mimic our actions and learn from us everyday. When asked by campers whether I would be coming the following year as they thought I had been a great mentor, I felt as though I had achieved the requirements laid down to me before the camp. Hearing them say that they would return next year with such compassion and the thanks they gave to us during their closing presentation made me contempt that my efforts had been of use. Seeing the development of these 8 shy, confused and homesick campers into the caring, friendly and energetic members of the family, you understand why this camp is so successful in developing our future leaders and community members throughout the world.

Day 11 - Mentor Diary E-mail
It's been another long day, jam-packed with action and uniqueness, fun and jokes, learning and lessons, bonding and connecting. The final full day of camp has provided a tremendous ending to an equally superb camp: The match between senior's and mentors, in which we we're hammered 6-3 by the campers (note that only one oal was scored by a camper LOL), and the admin v campers debate, where the motion of the camp being a waste of time was rejected hands down by campers and official's alike.

Day 10 - Mentor Diary E-mail

I was watching the rain fall today as my mind drifted towards memories of Sweden. Today's main thoughts were about the students, and all of their quirks: how I taught them Qurán, how I was in the speedboat snapping pictures as they tumbled into the water tube skiing, how during lunches and dinners they would so enthusiastically talk about all sorts of things, how at the amusement park they smiled cheekily when told about their ice-cream about to drip down to the elbow, how during maghribain salaat the younger ones would nod off during the duas, how during the later stages of the camp they would run around and interact like home and UK and nothing else would exist, forgotten all about the pains of leaving home and not being with their parents, how they would run after butterflies and moths, amused and amazed by its flight path.
