Sweden 2006

The Camp this year will run for 23rd July to 3rd August 2006. This year we have 7 members of the Administration team, five of whom are travelling to the Camp, whilst two will remain in the UK to form the contact points. The Camp is also blessed with the presence of 9 mentors, all of whom have been specifically handpicked. We also have two cooks, who are integral to the Camp, and without whom the Camp would be impossible to run.

The Camp is created with the assistance of our counterparts in Kärsögården, and we would like to thank them for their full co-operation. The Camp is the culmination of twelve months of consistent effort my a number of individuals, and we would like to thank them all for their genuine hard work and dedication.

InshAllah this Camp will be successful, and we wish all the Campers, Mentors and Admin staff the very best!

Day 5 - Sweden 2006 E-mail
8:30 am, the beginning of a new day in the world of Mercury. We regrettably woke up and rose from our warm and welcoming bed. Showers were next on the list along with brushing our teeth and then off to the breakfast room. In there we had the usual offerings of cereal, bread with margarine, butter, honey and jam. Beverages included milk, chai and coffee.

Day 4 - Sweden 2006 E-mail
We were woken up today by our mentors at 8.30am this morning and we went for our showers. We then headed towards the breakfast room, on time as usual, and we found the same breakfast as we had on the other days. There was the usual cereal, toast, bread, Swedish cheese and jam; however there was also a new item on our breakfast menu, omelette: most people had omelette.

Day 3 - Sweden 2006 E-mail
An early start at 8:30 am by the mentors was the beginning of our day. It was followed by a breakfast to waken us up and refresh us. The shower did that as well but that was for those who showered since the beginning of the camp…

Day 2 - Sweden 2006 E-mail

We woke up this morning without much efforts needed from our mentor, Aliraza bha. It surprised many of us as much as it surprised him, when he told us how easily we were awoken first for fajr, then for breakfast and classes. This really interesting cheese is served at breakfast, and everyone is enjoying the relaxed morning atmosphere of showering and self-service breakfasts.

Day 1 - Sweden 2006 E-mail
Campers Diary – Mercury.

I first heard about Sweden 2006 summer camp from my cousin and had long been awaiting it. The day had finally arrived when we touched down in Sweden. I felt tired but excited. When initially entering the camp, the camp looked amazing with the basketball court having blue tiles with the sun shining on it that gave us the impression it was a swimming pool. The weather in Sweden was like the one experienced in London for the last week. Sunny and hot! But it drizzled slightly later. We have been told by the mentor that the Sweden sky doesn’t get dark at night and am eagerly awaiting to see it.
