Day 3 - Mentor Diary E-mail
Tuesday, 25 July 2006
Alhamdullilah the camp is progressing fantastically. The campers, although  exhausted, are waking up for salaah and breakfast in perfect timing. This punctuality can be seen as campers are departing breakfast before some mentors have arrived.
Although some campers are still slightly rowdy in my opinion, the campers are befriending new people and making some new found close friends. Quieter campers are awakening from their ‘cocoon’ and the interaction of more campers has brought a buzz around karsogarden.

The competitiveness between planets has moved to the next level as the tournaments began today. I have found that the teams that have excelled in team building succeeded in today’s tournaments and although it was not my planet that won, there have definitely been improvements.

The activities have been a big hit with the campers. I have been continuously asked when crate stacking or tube skiing will be repeated. My only regret is the face of the camper when I tell him it is only a one time opportunity at the Sweden camp.

Although I have not taught yet, the lessons seem to be interesting and enjoyable from the feedback of the campers. It is good to see them enjoying lessons and their Educational ability is moving steadily towards excellence.

Now where would we be without the chefs? Their cooking has arisen comments such as, “because of them, I do not miss home,” and of course the usual, “mmm.” I myself have found the food to be perfect. A well balanced diet that tastes amazing. What more could you ask for?

PDT seemed slightly incontrollable today but it has allowed the admin to decide on the type of debating style in the future. Alhamdullilah the sessions have the groups working as a team, laterally and logically; an effect that is difficult to sustain.

I now find myself nodding off and typing random things with my head as I hit it on the keyboard. My sleep is being deprived but it will all be worth it in the end. As mentors we have been instilled that it is our duty to make this camp the best.
