Campers find themselves, at the Camp, exposed to a variety of different forms of transport, emphasis being on safely using public transport.
It all starts with the coach ride, in the early morning hours (3.30am) from Hujjat Stanmore to Luton airport. The powerful coach gently "eats" up the miles of the virtually deserted M1.The campers do not seem to be too bothered as most of them are unable to keep their eyes open, despite the anticipated excitement of a fun-filled holiday. The no-frills Ryan Air plane ride is an experience of a lifetime and the rush to secure a seat of one's choice. Luckily for the campers, they are allowed to board first and have the choice of seats. The other passengers would be excused in thinking that this was Khoja Airline - in lieu of your £1 tea and £5 sandwich, Campers get the Khoja buns and chevdo! The Legoland airport is a lot larger than the one the Campers will disembark in Sweden. (Talk about no-frills)
However, you have got to give it to the Swedes - the coach is a touch of luxury, for the entire transportation itinerary in Sweden. The boat trip into Stockholm is a delightful experience, marvelling at architecture during the cruise. The trip back to the camp by the tube (underground) during the rush hour is much more pleasant than any Tube ride London can offer. The connecting bus trip is equally sedate. And then comes the most enjoyable part of transport, - a walk of about twenty minutes back to the camp, strolling in groups and exchanging the days experiences. Its a pleasure to listen to the sounds of laughter and hubbub of conversation of friends on their way "home" using the most natural mode of transportation - walking! |
