Monday, 24 July 2006

We woke up this morning without much efforts needed from our mentor, Aliraza bha. It surprised many of us as much as it surprised him, when he told us how easily we were awoken first for fajr, then for breakfast and classes. This really interesting cheese is served at breakfast, and everyone is enjoying the relaxed morning atmosphere of showering and self-service breakfasts.

Lectures today covered topics ranging from ethics and the art of debate, to lateral thinking by Dr Datoo, to help us with our PDT quizzes. Being the oldest group, we have been trying to get the best of Doctor at his lateral questions, if we’re not busy dozing off in class.

Salaat and lunch followed the same pattern as yesterday, after which all of us campers were assessed on our wudhu and salaat. We then ran off to sports, where we did the ropes course in the sessions before the break. The development of team spirit and bonding between ourselves was one of the positive results of our time through the course. With crocodile-infested swamps and killer wasps to avoid, the motivation to succeed in the challenges was driven into us with constant encouragement and support from our Jupitarian mentor.

Another session of volleyball, and a fun game later, we settled down to a much needed and highly appreciated dinner of kebabs and roasted potatoes. We salute our chefs in making the mealtimes at our camp a part of our jam-packed timetable something to look forward to. PDT tonight was quite interesting, as the ‘millionaire’ game show theme quiz was done. We all plan to throw our mentor into the lake, as an error by him cost our planet 15 points in the scoring system.

We then had dessert, watched the sunset from the pier, and after maghribisha salaat had a final session of planet time with Aliraza bha. We like the way he gives us short planet-time style talks now and then, to keep us energised and motivated throughout the day. The talking through of ropes course and other activities also gave us a chance to think about how we can increase our skills of teamwork and communication.

Tomorrow, we serve all meals for the day. Hope it goes well, and we get a chance to recover from today’s lost points. Go Jupiter!
