Campers Diary – Mercury.

I first heard about Sweden 2006 summer camp from my cousin and had long been awaiting it. The day had finally arrived when we touched down in Sweden. I felt tired but excited. When initially entering the camp, the camp looked amazing with the basketball court having blue tiles with the sun shining on it that gave us the impression it was a swimming pool. The weather in Sweden was like the one experienced in London for the last week. Sunny and hot! But it drizzled slightly later. We have been told by the mentor that the Sweden sky doesn’t get dark at night and am eagerly awaiting to see it.
Once we got off the coach, we were greeted by our mentors (Murtaza Bha and Aqil Bha) and then taken to the conference room until the luggage was unloaded. After this we viewed our rooms and played some group exercise to awaken us after our long journey. This was followed by namaaz and then a scrumptious lunch of gosh nu saac with rice: ‘Great one chefs!’

It was finally sports time in which we had long awaited. The team were excited and felt we could achieve what we wanted to achieve. The first sport we played was football which was good followed by low ropes. The later was very hard (challenging) and involved working well in the team. The task involved us using many ideas to pass onto the next checkpoint. This felt different as we were not only dependant on ourselves but on people around us. This however involved a lot of screaming and shouting but it got us through 3 check points.

There was a small session performed daily called planet time that involved our team reflecting on what we have thought of the day’s activities to be put into this diary. This was interesting as it made us think of all the activities we have performed and were amazed at the fact that we have performed a vast number of activities since arriving at the camp which was just before 12 in the afternoon.

After planet time, we had PDT (Personal Development Time (which is also performed daily)) which included current affairs and sports news occurring around the world currently. Hasnain Panjwani (the camp manager) gave a small talk on his life experiences. This was followed by quizzes in which our team got 2/10 and 33/40. An unexpected event to occur was emails written by parents been read out to the entire camp.

Once the dinner had been digested, desert was served which included ice cream and fruits. It was a perfect way to conclude most of the day’s activities. Salaah was recited with another short planet time in which most of us were falling asleep. Mentors seeing how tired we were allowed us to go to bed slightly early in which we all jumped at the chance. We look forward to the first full day of camp tomorrow.
