Sunday saw us mentors experiencing the most prominent feeling of Sweden... sleep deprivation! But with a cold shower we all staggered in for breakfast and began the final day of our mentor training.
Our timetable began with a final trust exercise .. the old blindfold and lead combo - without a blindfold. In true Sweden style we improvised and used a headband along with some hats. The aim was to trust your partner to guide you on the right path without you knowing where to go. Its motive was to emulate the role of a mentor in relation to the camper - that we are the one with the overall picture and are to guide our campers, who have little or no sight in the wide world, with their full trust. After a few collisions and almost walking into doorways we made our way back into the main room for a sample lesson by Hasnain (bha). He was to lead by example through giving us a sample lesson plan and various layouts of how our lesson handouts could be organised. We gained an insight into how our lesson can be enjoyable yet educational and how to deal with any circumstance that may arise. This was followed by our responsibilities during the outings to the theme park, city centre and shopping mall. Our final briefing was regarding the final day and arrangements for travel back to Stanmore. This was followed by a final feedback session with Shabbar (bha) and was concluded with namaaz and lunch. With the MTW finally over the front doors opened and a group of well 'bonded' and trusting mentors emerged ready (inshallah) for Sweden 2006. |
