Day 7 - Mentors Diary - Fatema Mawji E-mail
Day 7 began with what one may say as the usual daily Fajr Jamaat Salaat. As a mentor however, for me this one was a Fajr Salaat with a difference. The first day when the girls all wanted to pray Furada in their rooms, (and prayed Salaat with their eyes half closed) seems like forever ago as Alhamdulillah they all now wake up quickly and eager to all pray together.

For breakfast we were treated much to our delight with eggy bread and scrambled eggs on top of the usual toast, cereal, fruit and chai. Energised to the start the day the girls had their morning classes whilst us mentors once again fought with the dishwasher as we cleared away.

Following a high demand, Muallima Mehnaaz Aunty held a Fiqh Masai’il Q&A session which one of the girls said to me “was really good because we were able to ask anything we were unsure about”. The other lessons of the day were on anger and how to control it, and this was followed by a calming and relaxing session of ‘meditation by the lake’ with fellow mentor Fatima Bharwani. It was amazing to see how although so many of them had never meditated before, picked up on it so quickly and were really appreciating their surroundings. All the breathing exercises had built up our appetites and lunch was served, followed by Namaaz.

After Namaaz was Quran Khane and then we all headed out for the Rounders Sports Tournament. The camp buzzed with excitement as Magnificent Mercury, Victorious Venus and Marvellous Mars all battled head to head for the title of the Best Sporting Planet. We all cheered on and Marvellous Mars lived up to their name to win the games.

Following the exciting afternoon a delicious dinner of kebab, bread rolls and vegetable saak was served. We all then gathered for the evening quizzes of memory games and scrambled words. Each planet worked as a team and fun, laughter and chatter quickly filled the room. Ayat of the Day was by Fatema Valji who inspired us all with her love for nature and the bounties of Allah (SWT). Mercury delivered the “Khoja News” and then we all ‘awwwed’ and ‘aaaahed’ over messages from our families and friends back home. We ended with our evening Salaat and each planet made their way back to our planet houses. Mercury stargazed on our balcony through the clear skies, and following the exciting events of the day and a cup of hot chocolate drifted off to rest, ready to Insh’Allah begin another exciting day.
