Shabbar was born in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, in 1977 and comes from a family of three with two elder sisters. His father Marhum Yusuf and his mother, Masuma were both born in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Shabbar moved to the U.K. in the late 1990’s to pursue his university education and since then has settled in London permanently. He is married and recently been blessed with a son.
He completed his GCSE’s and A-Levels in Dar-es-Salaam before reading Law at the University of Reading. He went to study the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC), to enable him to train as a solicitor. He continued his professional education by taking a Personal Insolvency Practice course, and now works for a licensed Insolvency Practitioners, in London, as an Insolvency Investigator. He is an affiliate member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association.
He has been an active community worker since his teenage years in Dar-es-Salaam, volunteering at the Madressa and as an Editor of the ‘Knowledge’ magazine. He has volunteered in various capacities in The World Federation as well as The Council of European Jamaats. Most notably, he was the Vice Chairman of the Education Committee of the Council of European Jamaats for about three years before his appointment as the Assistant to the Secretary General of CoEJ.
He has attended the Sweden camp as an administrator and was the UK Liaison last year. This year he is part of the pre camp admin team imparting his experience and expertise to the team.
