Launching of the Blanket Drive- spread the warmth SAB – CoEJ Appeal

Maulana Saheb. My Elders, Brothers and Sisters in Islam Asalamun Alaikum.. On this happy and joyous day I wish you all a very happy Khushali Mubarak on the birth day of our fifth Imam Hazrat Imame Mohammad Baquir A.S. As you all are aware that Last year the SAB launched the Hadis-e-Kisa Blanket Drive to raise funds to purchase warm Blankets for Senior Citizens who are suffering from the cold winters and cannot afford to purchase their own blankets. By the grace of Allah (SWT) to date they have successfully distributed over 3000 blankets in northern India and Pakistan, this was done in partnership with Nasimco. Now this year they are moving to other remote areas of northern Pakistan, Iran and Iraq where there is a much greater need for warm blankets. 95% of our Shia brothers and sisters in these areas live in a miserable poverty and gross deprivation. They lack the basic facilities like housing, sanitation and clean water. Health care is almost non existent. Some seniors in our community don’t even have the basics to survive. For many of us buying a coat or sweater is a common activity. But in such areas where we have targeted to assist, seniors are dying of extreme cold climates sometimes temperatures can drop down to almost below zero degrees centigrade. Because they cannot afford to purchase a blanket to keep them warm in the winter nights and this results in casualties every year. With this overwhelming demand and the winter season fast approaching in these countries The Senior Advisory Board of the World federation in partnership of The Council of European Jamat has planed its next fundraising drive. The purpose of this appeal is to raise funds from within our European Jamat to purchase these blankets. Our goal is to distribute 8500 blankets in Pakistan, Iran, and Iraq. Cost per blanket is about £5. Our target is to raise up to £12,000 in Europe. Your donation can mean the difference between life and death for some of our seniors around the world. Whenever you put on a warm coat or sweater, or even cover yourself with a snug blanket when you go to sleep, think of those elderly individuals who are without blankets and are freezing in cold wintry nights. A small contribution from each and every one of you will save lives of our underprivileged brothers and sisters.
