Since the Muballigheen Training Programme first began on Saturday 8th September 2007, the feedback received has been extremely positive.  Recently, the Institute of Islamic Postgraduate Studies in Damascus welcomed the visit of the Secretary General of The Council of European Jamaats (CoEJ), Brother Shabbar Dhalla.

On a family visit to Syria, Shabbar took the opportunity to visit the Institute to meet both the staff and the students.  He was extremely delighted with the progress of the course after having the chance to spend a few hours on campus.  During his time there, he was able to sit in on one of the student workshops where he was given a sample recitation by a Kari, who is also a teacher at the Institute.  Shabbar described the reciter as a ‘jewel’ as he realised the potential the students had in bettering their own Quran recitation when learning from such an outstanding teacher.

He also stated that the students are making great progress in their studies as they come close to the end of the first semester.  Additionally, by enrolling with their spouses, they are able to develop together with the same goals in mind.  Shabbar notes that with this unique project, ‘we are planting trees under which we, our generation, may never sit, but our children will bear the benefits.’

Before this project, there were no courses to specifically meet the needs of our community.  Alhamdullilah, the Muballigheen Training Programme is going well and is meeting all the objectives that were initially set.  In addition, with the course being accredited by the University of Winchester, the future of this project looks extremely promising.

Anyone who would like to visit the Institute whilst on a trip to the blessed city of Damascus are more than welcome and should contact Husein Ravji at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
