CoEJ Delegation meet His Eminence in Najaf

On Tuesday 6 April 2010, Dr Husein Jiwa, President of The Council of European Jamaats led a delegation to Najaf and called upon His Eminence Ayatullah Al Udhma Syed Ali Hussein Sistani. The delegation comprised of: Dr Husein Jiwa, Syed Mohamed Naqvi’, Br Mustafa Jaffer, Br Shabir Merali,  and Br Ahmed Dungersi.

Br Gulamhusein Sumar commented:

‘’You are indeed blessed and privileged  as a team of leaders representing CoEJ, to officially for the very first historical time to meet our Marajae and seek guidance on difficult issues and challenges facing COEJ and its community members’’

 
A range of issues were discussed and the advice and views of Agha were sought, but the focus of the discussions were centred on the Hilal issue that Europe is encountering especially in the Holy month of Ramadhan and Shawal.

His Eminence has now given us assurance that from now on, his office from Najaf will declare the first of Shawal and Ramadhan for Europe and other parts of the world.

He added that his office in Najaf and elsewhere will carefully study the astronomical possibilities based in various regions and recommend/guide the communities accordingly.

For clarity he was asked again and confirmed that this was not a change in ruling but only guidance from his office in Najaf.
