Br Gulamhusein Sumar, Vice president of The Council Of European Jamaats, represented CoEJ at Milad-un – Nabi Lecture at The Ismaili Centre on 4 March 2010. (Invitation Card )
The main theme of the evening centred around the lecture by Dr Farid Esack, Professor in the Study of Islam at the University of Johannesburg.
Professor Esack’s lecture explored the idea of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) as a thinker who sought to live out the numerous Qur`anic exhortations to "reflect", "explore" and "ponder". He considered the contemporary implications of the Prophet’s example, and sought to understand how serious intellectual enquiry, spiritual reflection, and social service can be seen in the spirit of his mission.
Br Gulamhusein conveyed felicitations from Dr Husein Jiwa, President of The Council Of European Jamaats, to Br Amin Mawji the President, and Br Samji the Secretary, of The Ismaili Centre
He also had the good fortune to meet Mr Amin Kassam, the head of the Ismaili Arbitary Board and various other guests including distinguished members of other Muslim Communities.
Br Gulamhusein Sumar commented: it was a pleasure to attend and we look forward to building an effective working relationship with the Ismaili community and in the process Insh’Allah, a long lasting friendship.
