The final CoEJ EC Meeting Report
The final Executive Council meeting of the 2009-2012 CoEJ term was held at Hujjat on Saturday 30th June 2012. The meeting was opened with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an followed by a short welcome speech by Br. Shabbir Mamdani – president of Hujjat.
He was followed by Dr. Asghar Moledina, President of World Federation, who spoke passionately about the Madrasah Centre of Excellence and highlighted the main points of his recent visit to Birmingham Jamaat. He also impressed the importance of promoting the perpetual daily Islamic Desk Calendar.
Dr. Moledina and Br. Shabbir Mamdani were joined at the top table alongside Br. Mohamed Mavani (Hon. Treasurer), Br. Gulam Sumar (Vice President), Dr. Husein Jiwa (President), Sis. Esmat Jeraj (Ass. Secretary General) and Br. Mohamed Dawood (Secretary General). Following introductions and apologies, it was with sadness that the Council bid farewell to Sis. Shamim Hudda (a key member of the Secretariat team), thanked her for her tireless work and wished her well for the future. Dr. Jiwa and Dr. Moledina together presented her with a small token of appreciation. The agenda was addressed efficiently, with few questions arising from either the President’s or Treasurer’s reports. It was agreed that a Safeguarding Policy Working Group be established as well as a working group to review the SOP for Relief Projects. Br. Mohamed Dawood presented the Information sharing and dissemination paper which was discussed in some detail. The council concluded that all Jamaats should endeavour to circulate relevant information to their members within 48 hours and that they would contact their members to see if they would be amenable to sharing their contact details with CoEJ in order to allow for more efficient information sharing.
Br. Mahmood Rehemtulla presented the Board representatives in Member Jamaats paper. This was of key importance, as it was felt that the grassroots were often inundated with information and local representatives would be more effective in reaching the target markets for each project. Everyone was in consensus with the proposed procedure. The AOBs consisted of reminders for upcoming projects including the Girls summer camp and Ramadhan relief as well as lively discussion around the upcoming Mulla Asghar Memorial Tournament.
The council now looks forward to the annual conference; which shall Insha’Allah be held on Saturday 6th October at Masjid Al Husayn, Leicester.
