The Astronomical New Moon is on Wednesday, 22 July at 3.36am.

Based on our community sighting criteria, the first sighting of the crescent should occur in South America on Wednesday, 22 July 2009. There is no possibility of sighting in Europe on this day.

Hence in accordance with the rulings of Ayatullah Sistani (based on the Theory of Differing Horizons),1st of Shaaban 1430AH will be on Friday, 24 July 2009.

As for those who remain on the taqleed of Marhum Ayatullah Khui, 1st of Shaaban 1430AH would probably be on Thursday, 23 July 2009 depending on verified sighting in America.

The Hilal Advisory Team will ascertain the sighting as soon as possible.
