Wessex_logoBihamdillah by the blessings of Ahlul Bayt a.s. the aspirations of members of the Wessex Jamaat for the New Al Mahdi centre are now drawing to reality.

On Sunday 9th January 2011/ 4th Safar 1432 A.H, at 11:15am in the freezing winter temperature, over 75 members of the community got together at the site of the new AL MAHDI project on Fontley Road to invoke blessings of Allah SWT for the ground breaking prior to the commencement of development. The digging works for the foundation began on Monday 10th January 2011.

Wessex_logoYear 6 children were learning about pilgrimages in their RE lessons, including the duty of Muslims to travel to Mecca during their lifetime, but they were relying on textbooks and the internet rather than personal testimony.

So Sheik Fazle Abbas Datoo, the imam at Al Mahdi Centre in Wickham, visited the school for the first time to share his experience of pilgrimage.

The imam brought a scale replica of the Kaaba in Mecca and the class walked around the model to imagine the annual event which attracts about three million people.

Wessex_logoWessex Jamaat held “Know your Neighbour” programme on Monday 10th January 2011.  It invited 14 Religious Education trainee teachers from the University of Chichester to meet with the youth and members of Wessex Jamaat including madrasah teachers.
It was an event that lasted about two and a half hours that gave the to-be-teachers a chance to view the religion of Islam through the perspective of the children that they were going to teach.   

A group of children from Wessex Madrasah were given the opportunity to express their personal views on living as Muslims in the U.K. and the way Islam is taught to them in school and Madrasah.

Wessex_logoCouncillor Gerald Vernon Jackson, Leader : Portsmouth City Council invited the Wessex Jamaat to attend a Prayer Service for the ‘Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Blitz’ held at the Portsmouth Cathedral.

The Jamaat was represented by the President of Wessex Jamaat, Br Roshan Gangji, Br Shabbir Walji, the project Director for Al Mahdi, Br Muhammad Nurmohamed,  a Trustee of the Jamaat, and youths of the Jamaat Br Jamil Bandali,  Seyyid  Ayad Hassan  and Br Miqdad Master.

Portsmouth city was one of many cities which came under German bombing raids 70 years ago.
