Wessex Jamaat granted £7,462.50 from the European Social Fund - UK
Wessex Jamaat recently successfully applied for a European Global Grant that was made "available to breakdown barriers to employment for disadvantaged and underrepresented groups or individuals". The main purpose of the grant was to promote activities that help progression towards the labour market.
Wessex Jamaat applied for the grant to fund a training course that focused on the development of presentation skills for predominantly female community members and Madressa teachers. These skills included confidence building, interviewing skills and skills to enhance social inclusion within the wider community. The aim of the course was to develop these skills within community members and hence assist them to enter the labour market. These skills would also facilitate development of leadership within the community and in a wider context.
Roshan Gangji, President of Wessex Jamaat said: "I am delighted that we have been successful and I am grateful to The Council of European Jamaats and the World Federation for making us aware of the process and advising us on how to submit the application". The 6-day course will commence in February 2007 and will be spread over six month duration. For further information on this grant, email
