MCBs Youth to launch innovative blog The Platform Debating and Discussing Britain in the New Decade Print E-mail

the platformThe Muslim Council of Britains Youth Committee will be launching on Friday 22nd January 2010 a new and dynamic youth-led initiative entitled The Platform.  The project is designed to channel the views and opinions of the wider community in a positive and productive way to provide a platform for constructive debate around a central theme: Britain ten years on; envisioning and structuring progress. This will be designed to promote a proactive approach to debate, maintaining a visionary focus on progress, and also correspond with MCBs main goal in working towards the common good.

The Platform will span six weeks and encompass five key issues during this time. It will include articles from leading academics, journalists and politicians in their respective fields as well as young and talented contributors. The broad weekly themes selected are Universal Values, Crime & Security, Politics & Civic Participation, and Spirituality and Culture.

Youth Committee Secretary Lubaaba Al-Azami who coordinated the project said: This is the perfect opportunity for us as young British Muslims to set the agenda and discuss our future. For too long debate about important issues such as politics and culture for example, have only taken place when reacting to events this is an opportunity for us to be proactive and empower all Muslims to have our say about our vision of Britain in the new decade.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, Secretary General of the MCB, said: Young people should always be at the forefront leading the discussion in progressing the Muslim and wider community for the common good. The new decade will, I am sure, confront us with many challenges, but every challenge brings an opportunity for us to help strengthen our common values and aspirations in developing our society.
