TENNIS RULES AND REGULATIONS

Adults Singles- Sunday 26.08.07, 9.00am to 6.00pm

1. The qualifying stage will be a round robin in 4 groups of 5 players each.

2. Against each player in your group, you will play one normal set but with a tie break at 5-5.

3. The winner and second placed players in each group will qualify for the quarter finals. In case of a tie on the number of matches won, the difference between the number of games won and lost will be counted. If there is still a tie, the person who won the match against the person whom he is tied with will go through to the next round.

4. The two players in each group who are 4th and 5th placed will (time permitting) qualify to play a friendly plate knockout tournament to be drawn on the day.

5. There will be a 5 minute knock-up before each player’s first match but all subsequent matches will have a 2 minute knock-up.

6. The top player in each group (based on matches won) will be drawn for the quarter finals and will play against one of the 4 second placed players who will also be drawn.

7. If a player in any group fails to turn up to a match on time, the unplayed match will be treated as a default win but it will not count for averaging for purposes of Rule 3

8. Players will change sides at every odd game and after every 6 points in a tiebreak.

9. Quarter finals and semi-finals will be played after lunch on a knock out basis.

10. Quarter finals and semi-finals will be a long pro-set (time permitting) of first to win 10 games and a tie break at 9-9.

11. Finals will start at 4.00p.m and will be best out of 3 normal sets. If there is insufficient time to play a full 3rd set the final set will be a pro- tie break
(i.e First to win 10 points or 2 clear points if it is tied at 9 all.)

12. The winner will be awarded a floating trophy. The winner and runner up will also get a trophy to keep.

13. Players must remain in the Tennis arena throughout the day and will be released for lunch and prayers when they are not playing. Any player leaving the tennis arena without clearing with the organiser and not being available at the time to play his match will forfeit his match at the organiser’s discretion which will be final.

14. All matches will be played on outdoor hard courts and you must have appropriate tennis shoes and have your own racket.

Under 18 Singles Tennis Sunday 26.08.07 , 9.00am to 4.00pm

1. The qualifying stage will be a round robin in 2 groups of 4 players each.

2. Each match will be a normal set i.e. first to win 6 games but with a normal tie break at 5-5 games all.

3. The top two players from the each group will qualify for the semi-finals which will be a normal set with a tie break at 6-6. In case of a tie on the number of matches won, the difference between the number of games won and lost will be counted. If there is still a tie, the person who won the match against the person whom he is tied with will go through to the next round. In the semi-finals, the Winner of Group A will play the Runner-up of Group B and vice versa.

4. There will be a 5 minute knock-up before each player’s first match but all subsequent matches will have a 2 minute knock-up.

5. Players will change sides at every odd game and after every 6 points in a tiebreak.

(i.e First to win 10 points or 2 clear points if it is tied at 9 all.)

9. The winner will be awarded a floating trophy. The winner and runner up will also get a trophy to keep.
