Report on the Young girls camp 2004 E-mail

A young girls camp was organised by the khawateen sub-committee between 1st and 4th June 2004 at Portsmouth Jamaat.

The camp was targeted between the ages of 8 and 12 years.
The aim of the camp was:

  • to welcome the girls into their buloogh age
  • to teach them their roles and responsibilities
  • to give them importance of directly connecting with Allah.
  • Meeting girls from various jammats and form lasting relationships
  • Provide safe and Islamic environment where the girls can have fun

A bunch of 32 girls left Stanmore on the morning of 1st June for a 3 night camp to Portsmouth.  We arrived there to be greeted with a chicken and chips lunch organised by the Portsmouth jamaat ladies. Wednesday morning there was an Islamic workshop after which the girls dashed off in the hovercraft to Isle of Wight. One of the girls said "this was the best day of my life".
Once again on Thursday morning the girls had workshop on love of Allah. Then we went off to ice skating. A statement from one of the girls was " ice skating was a new experience for me and i was an expert in ice skating in two exciting hours".  On return we recited Dua-e-Kumail with meanings in English.  After Maghribain we played Islamic version of Who Wants to be a Millionnaire.  We had post midnight feast followed by Namaaz-e-Shab and the girls were rewarded with Choch Ices at 3.00 a.m.

On Friday before leaving to Stanmore we joined the Portsmouth jamaat for Jumaa prayers which, was also a new experience for most of the girls.

A thank you presentation to Portsmouth Jammat was carried out for their hospitality by the COEJ Khawateen and the Portsmouth Jamaat also presented a lovely cake and pen as a gift to all the teachers, helpers and organisers of the camp.

Alhamdullah all aims were achieved.  In their Evaluation the girls had stated that they can now connect with Allah in what ever they are doing.  They learnt about their wajibats, roles and responsibilities of becoming baligha, made lots of new friends and had lots of fun.
