Diary of Day 9 - Madinah-al-Ilm and Bab-al-Ilm 4 Course E-mail
Day 9 - Tuesday 31 July 2007

Boys' Diary:  The 31st of July was a day which was to bring about great spiritual benefit.

A few students awoke at 8 am for breakfast, whilst the others slept through and woke up before class. The classes continued in their normal manner, with engaging discussions from Shaykh Safiyullah and Shaykh Nadir, as well as Mr Agha Pour and Sister Arastoo and Sister Khalfan.

After the classes were over, the students attended salaatul jamaa'at followed by lunch at the hawza. We were then blessed by Allah as we were given a seating with one of the leading Maraje of our time - Ayatullah Wahid Khurasani. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest marja' on earth today. He was a very close friend of the late Ayatullah Tabrizi and through his persuasion the Islamic Republic of Iran now has a national holiday on the martyrdom of Ladyt Fatema al-Zahra (PBUH) as a sign of the great lady's magnanimity.

He met us for 45 minutes and spoke to us regarding how we should develop ourselves and perform tabligh in the west. He also told us to ensure that we pray our Namaz on time and to recite Dua al-Ahd after fajr prayers. He mentioned that we should all recite sura al-tawheed 11 times in the morning after fajr and 11 time in the night after isha.

After leaving the presence of the Marja' we prayed our maghrib and isha salaat, and headed towards Jamkaraan. Alhamdulillah we reached at a time when there was a lot of rush but we still found a great location opposite the mosque. We all sat down and ate dinner before proceeding to perform our own a'maal. We then recited dua al-tawassul with the entire Jamkaraan congregation. The atmosphere was indescribable. Hundreds of thousands of Shia Muslims all present in one location all begging the infallibles for intercession.

The weather at first was lightning and sand storms, but by the end the weather had changed to a much calmer cloud free sky with a cool breeze.

Before the dua, there was a lecture by a local speaker followed by a narration of the events which took place on the day of Ashura. During the time of the narration, 6 or so boys witnessed the clouds form the word 'Husain' in Arabic right above the masjid compound. It soon disappeared but left a sight which will never be forgotten by those students.

Tomorrow, the body of Ayatullah Miskhini, a great backbone of the Islamic Revolution, will be brought to Qum for burial. He passed away in a hospital in Tehran on Monday morning.

We left Jamakaraan at around 11:45pm and reached the hawza at around 12:15. Lights out was at 1 am and the students prepared for their final few lessons the next day.
