Each year the Muslim community is in disarray over the start and end of Ramadan, i.e. sighting of the moon (hilal). Blame can be attributed to intolerence of valid theological differences and uncompromising positions according to sectarian politics from people's countries of origin. However, a lot of the time both camps are highly ignorant of Astronomy in general.
Muslims in the past had been leaders in this science, known as Ilm al-Falak, but this is not the case today. Nowadays, to find a Muslim astronomer is like trying to find ET in our galaxy. |

Ayatollah Ali Meshkini, 86, passed away on Monday afternoon after two weeks suffering from pulmonic diseases. The Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei expressed his condolences on the sad occasion of demise of Ayatollah Ali Meshkini.
In parts of the message, the Islamic Revolution Leader said, "Demise of such a pious and devoted Alim has caused deep sorrow and grief for me." |

Over 100 visitors attended an open day held on Sunday 8 July 2007 at the Husaini Islamic Centre in Burton Street, Peterborough. The event was based on the theme; ‘Living as Muslims in Britain’, and aimed to provide citizens of Peterborough with an insight into our mosque and centre. The event was attended by a cross section of the community ranging from local church vicars and police officers to youth and children.

Tehsina Devji has done a wonderful documentary about hijab for school and it's now competing in a competition held by CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) to be screened on national TV.
"Hijab: Unveiling the Truth" is an attempt to shatter the stereotypes and reveal the truth about the hijab (Islamic veil). On a broader scope, the film addresses the issue of diversity.
