Health Screening Day at Stanmore |

Health screening was conducted by the Health Improvement Board of the Council of European jamaats in conjunction with the Health and Medical Committee of The Muslim Council of Britain at Hujjat, Stanmore on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 April 2006.
Overall the programme was very successful and about 355 members both male and female availed this golden opportunity to get their health MOT done for free (normally worth £125). It also attracted local PCT personnel and leaders from the neighbouring Muslim Mosque who praised the screening procedure and requested us to help them to set up a similar exercise in other faith centres. The services available were: - Doctors - consultation and overall health assessment
- Dentists - checking gums/teeth
- Opticians - general eye check-up
- Dietician - general dietary and nutritional advice
- Doctors/Health care assistants will be there to carry out:
• Thalassemia tests
• Blood sugar tests (free for 16 yrs+)
• Cholesterol test (free for those over 30 yrs or with high blood pressure, high sugar or a strong family history of cardiac disease).
• Cardiac assessments (35 yrs+ only)
• Stress management consultations (16 yrs+ only)
- Presentation/educational session for women on Breast cancer/screening
- Information on accessing benefits and health care
- Assistance with smoking cessation
- Health information leaflets
