1st April 2007 - Day One – The Journey 8.30am meeting time? A bit early for a Sunday morning? Sluggishly dragging along our heavy and over packed bags in one hand and our necessary khoja flask of tea in the other, we prepared to board the coach. The atmosphere was filled with anxiety which was slowly overcoming the tired, early morning eyes and the excitement soon urged people to hop onto the coach. As always because we are khoja we recited our duas collectively and loudly and we soon set off.
Not after long we had finished our bhajyas and kebabs that our mothers had packed and a highly anticipated rest was close round the corner. The quick stop was over and before we knew it we had reached the green, countryside areas of Yorkshire. Despite us being so far from our well known bed at home, we were soon acquainted with our new ones and met different people from all other jamaats. After prayers and lunch, we were faced with our first lesson which was surprisingly challenging. Finishing our second lesson of the day, after a filling evening meal, we gathered in the dining hall for the daily quiz. This was fun, active and yet relaxing – a good way to end a long day. The midnight moon was soon approaching and especially people started to dose off. We son settled in our bedrooms and the lights were out before it was to late- that was day one. |
