The Astronomical Moon is on Friday 1st August 2008 at 11.14 am. Based on our community sighting criteria, the first sighting should first occur in the Pacific Ocean on this day. Mu'mineen in Fiji should be the first to be able to sight the crescent on Saturday 2nd August 2008.
Should the crescent be sighted as expected, in accordance with the rulings of Ayatullah Seestani (based on The Theory of Differing Horizons), 1st Shaaban 1429 will be on on Monday, 4th August 2008. As for the Muqallideen of Marhum Ayatullah Khui, 1st Shaaban will be on Sunday, 3rd August 2008.
The Hilal Advisory Team will confirm the sighting as soon as possible.

The Astronomical New Moon is on Saturday 30 August 2008 at 8.59pm. Based on our community sighting criteria, the first sighting of the crescent is expected to occur in South Africa on Sunday, 31 August 2008. Sighting of the crescent in Europe should occur on Tuesday, 2 September 2008.
Should the crescent be sighted as expected, in accordance with the rulings of Ayatullah Sistani (based on The Theory of Differing Horizons), 1st Ramadhan will be on Wednesday, 3 September 2008 for the Muqallideen of Ayatullah Sistani. As for the Muqallideen of Marhum Ayatullah Khui, 1st Ramadhan will either be on Monday 1 September 2008 or Tuesday 2nd September depending on verification of sighting. The Hilal advisory Team will convene on Sunday 31st August and after careful collation of information issue a statement accordingly on Sunday 31st August.
