At 3.30am, we were woken up for Subh namaaz by our mentor, feeling tired, sleepy and rudely interrupted. After the recitation of Fajr namaaz, we fell asleep very quickly, anticipating the warm quilt, only to be woken up again at 8:20am by our mentors to have breakfast; this consisting of cheese and some delicious food such as the cereals, yoghurts, breads, variety of spreads and tea!

After breakfast, we had classes to go to. In these classes we learnt from Sajjad bha about debating and found out the perfect way to interrupt a speaker – which is point of order and point of information. Our favourite lessons were by Ali Akber Uncle – charity, and Sajjad bha’s lesson on debating.

Fazleabbas bha spoke about having one God, and we played a game about first cause. You have to tap the shoulder of the person on your right, but only when the person on your left has tapped you first. Since it requires somebody to tap you before you can tap others, there must be a first cause. This cause is God – God starts everything.

In Mahmood uncle Datoo’s lesson, we learnt about attitude and we wrote numbers corresponding to letters. The word ATTITUDE adds up to 100. There is good attitude and bad attitude.

After classes we had namaaz. We prayed namaaz in jamaat, which taught us that its not just about praying namaaz. In between namaaz, we had a talk by Fazleabbas bha who spoke about praying in the right environment and wearing clean clothes. After namaaz we had lunch; the cooks made an enormous amount of rice and mince meat, with the usual bread rolls and salad. We had orange juice and water for drinks.

We did qur’an assessment to improve our qur’an and make makharij better and in order to recite in a nice tune and to recite fluently, and to train voice tones. We also had namaaz assessments, which were carried out by a variety of mentors and teachers. They performed brilliantly in teaching us about salaah.

Then came the sports! The first sport was low ropes, which was a teamwork activity. It was about helping other people in order to achieve a common goal. By working together, we could make it easier for each other to get through the low ropes course. It also helped by donating shoelaces and clothes in order to go through the course!

After low ropes, we had refreshments. Following that, we went to play cricket, and after a successful game of cricket we also got to play basketball. With a touch of training from mentors, and a bit of natural skill, we played a thrilling match that was very tight.

After a long and sweaty match, we had a warm shower and had an excellent dinner of chicken and chips! And then we had PDT, during which we participated in quizzes, lateral thinking, post bags where parents messages were read out in front of everyone. There was a chorus of “aaaahs”...

After that we had dessert, and then namaaz. There was an inspiring lecture by Zahir abbas Sumar. There was a nawha and then ziyarat. Now we are at planet time!
