muharam quiz

The CoEJ Muharram Quiz received a phenomenal response with exactly one-hundred entrants taking part from all over the world. Entries were predominantly received from Europe, but community members from as far away as Dar-es-Salaam, Burundi and Hyderabad also took part.

The winners for the quiz were split between the two categories (under 16s, and those aged 16 and over).

We are very happy to announce that Ghulam Hussain Zailai from Leicester won the under 16s section with a score of 31, and that Sister Zahra Jaffer from Wessex won the 16+ category with a score of 35 (out of a possible 36).

The top five scores from both categories are listed below.

The Youth Desk of The Council of European Jamaats have organised a Youth Committees Day to take place on  Sunday 26 April 2009 at Husaini Islamic Centre, Peterborough.

This event aims to bring together youth committee members from across Europe in order to share ideas as well as to build effective communication links between members of different jamaats. The day will be geared towards developing practical measures for youth committees to address the challenges that we currently face.

A great deal of time and effort has been put into making this day beneficial for the participants, and youth committee members are encouraged to take up this opportunity. Subject to there being sufficient spaces, you may be able to attend even if you are not a member of any youth committee.

Please contact your jamaat youth head who will provide you with further information on how to register or Contact Youth@CoEJ.org

With over 40 separate entries received for our Eid-ul-Fitr Card Competition; this years' judges had the unenviable task of selecting one winner from so many amazing entries. The designs, from paintings to colour-pencil designs to computerised artwork; all made with attention and thought, were wonderful pieces of art in their own right.

After much deliberation by the judges, we are pleased to announce that Saarah Kaba from Hyderi Jamaat, London has won this years’ Eid Card Design Competition. Read more...

Saturday 30th August was indeed a beneficial day for me. When the day began, nerves could be felt by the fourty or so people that were preparing to go to university, many of whom were going to leave home for the first time in their life.

The day began with a talk by Brother Imran Damani who shared his experiences of freshers week as well as giving some useful advice on the importance of Hijab. After a brief refreshments break, we were split up into smaller groups to take part in discussion circles of two kinds. First, we were paired with people going to the same university. We were then split up according to the course we intended to embark upon at university. It was no surprise that the medics/dentist/pharmacists group hugely outnumbered all others.

The Council of European Jamaats would like to congratulate Sumayya Manji from Peterborough (aged 9) and Muhammad Ali Haji from Leicestershire (aged 15) for their winning entries for the recent drawing / writing competition.

All the entrants had clearly taken time and put a lot of hard work into their submissions; and the judging process was challenging due to the high standard. Viewing and reading the cartoons / short essays was very enjoyable and we would like to thank all the competitors for their efforts.
