Speaker bio-sketch - Husayn El-Mekki Abdullah-Aziz

His parents became Muslim during the era of Malcolm X, and their passion for Islam grew even more during the Islamic revolution. They decided to pioneer to Iran to study when He was two years old. His father and mother made many sacrifices and stayed in Iran for four years and studied in the Islamic seminary giving his siblings and himself an opportunity to see and be part of an Islamic society. "We were blessed with the opportunity to meet many of the scholars of that time including being honored as personal guest of Imam Khomeini (May Allah have mercy on his soul)".

In 1994 some of his family members including himself returned to Iran; it was then that He officially began 'howza' studies. He has taken courses in the Howza on: Arabic grammar, philosophy, metaphysics, Quranic science, Persian literature and Islamic law. After some years, he returned to the States and gained work experience and simultaneously engaged in

college courses in the field of Computer Information Systems. He also completed courses at a vocational school and received certificates in business telephony, fiber optics and security systems.

In 2003 He assisted in accompanying a group of approximately 30 Muslim brothers and sisters to the Islamic Republic of Iran, who had interest in learning about Islam and the Islamic revolution.

In 2006 again he returned to Iran in order to continue his studies. Also after having had been introduced to his spouse from southern Iran He was blessed to get married  (January of 2007).  In Philadelphia as a family of religious students they have established regular Dua Kumail sessions, and have been active within the Muslim community. He also translates and edits for magazines, books, and other Islamic websites.

The topics to be discussed in his Muharram lectures include: Unity, How Muharram Relates to Us today, Piety, The Way of The Ahlul-Bait, Loyalty...
