Seniors Needs Desk of The Council of European Jamaats organised an Annual Eid gathering to celebrate the momentous occasion of the 25th anniversary of European Hajj Mission combined with SND workshop on Sunday 16 October 2011 at Husseini Islamic Centre (Hujjat).
The event was very well attended by both Ladies and Gents, past Hujjaj and seniors of U.K Chapters. Alhaj Dr Husein Jiwa, CoEJ President, Alhaj Dr Asgarali Moledina, WF President, Chairman of EHM, Alhaj Ahmedbhai Dungersi & Chairman CoEJ SND Alhaj Ramzanbhai Dhanji together with Alhaj Kamruddinbhai Khaki were amongst the main speakers. Charismatic accounts and experiences were delivered by various past hujjaj. Thereafter, the citations were presented to the volunteers in praise of their relentless services rendered during Hajj.
This was followed by an SND Workshop which focused on various topics of concern to the seniors.
The seniors expressed their wish to continue with celebrating various khushalis at different venues to encourage the fraternisation among the Senior Citizens of all chapters. This has proven very successful in the previous years.
The ladies also had 4 speakers within the women section who shared their Hajj experience with EHM. Citation was presented to Fatmabai Dungersi and Sakinabai Khimji.
The second part of their programme focused on acquiring their view on 3 things that they felt went well over the past year. The three most popular responses were:
• Trip to Dar
-e-salaam
• Weekly seniors programme
• Seniors event in Milton Keynes
The next session was to focus on 3 things that the seniors would like to see further developed in 2011/2012 are:
• Development of Senior's Home
• Transport arrangement locally for seniors (Dial a Ride)
• Ziyarat trip and once a year outing to seaside
within the UK
• Additional points suggested during the workshop were to cater for seniors basic needs at Jamaat level such as reasonable cushioned chairs for seniors, Wheelchair access within the Jamaat, Computer classes, Private Health Insurance (due to long NHS waiting list). ![]()
