blair_04 A delegation of youths from COEJ attended a breakfast meeting with former Prime Minister Tony Blair, held at the Al Khoei Foundation, on Tuesday 6th May 2008.

The CoEJ Youth delegation was composed of Sadiq Datoo (Chair of CoEJ Youth Desk), Fatima Manji (Chair of CoEJ External Relations & Media Desk), Zishan Jiwa, Fatim Kurji-Jumabhoy, Mehjabeen Rahim and Sarfraz Jeraj (Hon Secretary of Hyderi Jamaat).
The topic of discussion was "Young Muslims and Faith in Britain".

The delegation took part in a lively and broad ranging discussion on topics such as the Iraq War, peace in the Middle East, preventing extremism amongst young British Muslims and Inter-Faith relations.

Tony Blair outlined his plans and aspirations for his newly formed Faiths Foundation, explaining that religion could be a major force for good in the modern globalised world.

The Chairs of CoEJ Youth and Media Desks were also part of the greeting party for the former Prime Minister. They were able to use this opportunity to briefly introduce the work of our community and of CoEJ.

Sadiq Datoo, Chair of CoEJ Youth Desk said: " I am pleased that youths of our community were able to partake in this event and question the former Prime Minister on the issues which are so important to British Muslims."

Fatima Manji, Chair of CoEJ External Relations & Media Desk said: "The meeting raised some interesting points for discussion. I hope this event will be the first of many, allowing the young leaders of our community to engage with political leaders at the highest levels."
