Home Boards And Desks Khawateen Reports Annual Ladies Sports Tournament 2006
This year's tournament was hosted by Birmingham Jamaat with 170 participants. The weekend proved to be a very successful one and everyone who participated enjoyed the two days of competition.

The Badminton tournament saw some promising players in the under 13 and under 15 age groups who enthusiastically played their box matches on Saturday morning followed by the more challenging games in the over 16 categories.

Every year the standard of play improves tremendously and this year was no exception. In addition to the usual players, there was an increase in beginners taking up the sport and the challenge at the tournament for the first time. With levels of play rising at a fast rate, the organisers decided to put up a Beginner+ group to encourage the newcomers playing in the beginner group.

Table Tennis participation is also steadily increasing over the years, and there were some challenging matches in all age groups.

The downpour of rain brought the Football tournament indoors, thankfully the centre was large enough to be able to provide us with two indoor gym halls for this. As usual both halls were filled with excitement during the matches with some fast and challenging matches in the older age group.

This year the referees were donated to us by the Girls and Women Football Development team in Birmingham and did a wonderful job of running the matches.

The swimmers had some exciting races in the swimming pool on Saturday afternoon with  special cheers for the youngest participant, Zahra Lalji from Birmingham, who swam her width race with great enthusiasm!

The Netball tournament was held on Sunday when we were blessed with beautiful weather which added to the enjoyment of all.

The umpires did a very professional job to get so many matches underway and timing was crucial. The overall umpire highly commended the teams for their sportsmanship and fair play and commented on the very high levels of play seen on the courts that day.

Every tournament ends with an exciting Presentation, which is the highlight of the weekend, where young and old get together to cheer the successes of the teams. This year the presentation ceremony brought an end to the tournament with a special message from the overall co-ordinator for the ladies to keep up the participation and not to stop playing!

Finally a big Thank You to Birmingham Jamaat ladies for the wonderful hospitality.
