 The Islamic Cultural Affairs committee of the CoEJ are pleased to announce that the popular leaflet "An Introduction to Islam" has been updated and a new edition has been published. Over 20,000 copies of the first edition were distributed. The ICA considering the high demand for this throughout the world and amongst our member communities has printed 20,000 copies of the new edition which incorporates new sections on belief including divine leadership and what others have to say about Islam.

 The ICA of CoEJ has published a new leaflet on Qur'an the last word of our Lord to Mankind. This has been based on a an article commissioned from Mullah Mahmood Abdullah on this topic. The belief of the Shia community in the Quran is something that is often challenged by our Muslim brothers. Other monotheistic religions also have a number of questions regarding the divinity of our holy book and its contents. This leaflet is an attempt to briefly address some of the points raised in interfaith discussion and contains the importance of this holy book for the Muslims and Mankind as well as discussion on the authenticity and finality of the revealed message. There are sections relating to what Qur'an says on important issues relating to Mankind. The ICA has got printed copies of this leaflet.

 The Council of European Jamaats has been requested to issue a statement on the issue of Salat timings by a number of members. The Council has been recommending the use of the original World Federation timings which was compiled by experts under the guidance of Marhum Mullah Asgher M.M Jaffer and validated by observations. We have sought advice from some of the experts serving our community.
The council has not received any written documentation from a recent report that a group of Ulama in London observed timings that were slightly different from our current version. However, as a Shari’ (religious) duty, the Council will be requesting a panel of experts from the resident alims to look into this matter and this process is likely to take a year, as it will entail a long and detailed exercise.

 Khums is an important pillar of the Islamic economic system and an essential obligation for a Muslim. It is the most common tax in the Shi’ah law of Islam since it applies to the savings and the profits on an annual basis. It was introduced by the grandfather of the Holy Prophet, Abdul Muttalib upon a command given to him by Allah and has been emphasised repeatedly by the Holy Prophet and all the Imams.
"Know that whatever of a thing you acquire, a fifth of it is for Allah, for the Messenger, for the near relative, and the orphans, the needy, and the way-farer" The Qur'an 8:41.
